Employee Slate reimagined the employee experience around AI, conversation, and action. But the people configuring it were still working through a fragmented, platform-centric experience.
For Employee Slate to succeed as the front door for millions of employees,
we had to redefine the experience for the people who configure it.
Admins were carrying the full burden of understanding platform architecture, navigating fragmented modules, consulting external documentation, and testing in the dark — before a single employee could experience the new front door.
The problem wasn't complexity. It was invisible complexity.
The platform knew how everything was connected. The admin didn't.
The admin had to understand how ServiceNow was built
before employees could experience what we designed.
Admins think in tasks — branding, content, notifications — not platform modules. The IA should speak in outcomes, not system internals.
Bring guidance, dependencies, and relevant information into the experience instead of making admins constantly switch between the console and documentation.
Show configuration state and provide live previews so admins can understand the impact of their decisions before going live.
A persistent left-nav console organised around admin outcomes — branding, data sources, canvas, notifications — not how the platform is built.
Screens shown are representative views. Full product detail shared privately during walkthrough.
V1 outcome signals are from early-access admin cohort. V2 agentic design is in active development — time-to-value figures reflect the design north star, not yet measured outcomes.
